Our Story – From Milton Keynes Garage to Adi’s Coffee Beans

Coffee has always had a special pull on me.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been surrounded by people drinking what we in Poland used to call “parzucha” — two spoons of ground coffee, poured over with boiling water. Back home it’s sometimes referred to as “Polish Turkish coffee,” although it has very little to do with the real Turkish brew prepared on hot sand — something I discovered many years later.

There was always something mysterious about coffee. Something alive.

With my very first paycheck, I bought a simple espresso machine from a local store. At the time — early 2000s — it was hard to find real beans; most of the coffee came pre-ground and over-roasted. But that didn’t stop me.

Then came a French Press, and with it, countless cups of rich, sediment-free coffee (and yes, a satisfied grin on my face every time). Still, I couldn’t shake the feeling that the best coffee had to be freshly ground. That led me to my first bean-to-cup machine — a used Sage espresso maker, found for next to nothing, yet a total game changer.

By then, my wife Ewa was already by my side — supporting every crazy idea I’ve ever had, and I owe her a huge thank you for that. ❤️

From Bees to Beans

A few years later, life took its turns — work, responsibilities, and a new passion: beekeeping and camping.

Tending to bees taught me patience, balance, and respect for nature. It’s a craft — just like roasting coffee — where you rely on intuition, rhythm, and the beauty of small details.

I’ve always been drawn to creating things by hand, close to nature. Maybe that’s why, when visiting a European roastery years ago, I got inspired by their animal-themed packaging. Since then, I’ve made it part of our brand’s DNA — each of our coffees carries an animal that represents its origin, flavour, or spirit.

Every bag you see today is hand-printed right here in my Milton Keynes roastery, because I want every coffee we make to feel truly personal — a piece of craftsmanship as much as a cup of coffee.

The Start of Adi’s Coffee Beans

After moving to the UK, I found myself missing that sense of craftsmanship — something creative, something real.

About a year ago, I told my wife:

“I’m going to start a hobby that pays for itself. I’ll roast my own coffee, build a proper blend, and share it with friends.”

That’s when Adi’s Coffee Beans was born.

With help from our dear friend Jess and my new mate Ben, we spent evenings brainstorming names that fit our energy. And when Adi’s Coffee Beans came up — it just felt right.

Soon after, I found a used Sweet Coffee Italia roaster — an Italian beauty, slightly broken, bought for pennies. I fixed it myself. And when I fired it up for the first time, I knew this wasn’t just a hobby anymore. It was the beginning of something real.

That was the turning point:

“Let’s go for it. Let’s open an online store — and one day, our own coffee shop. Maybe even a small chain of local cafés.”

Our goal has always been simple — let quality speak for itself.

Every roast, every bean, every cup tells part of our story.

And if you’re wondering where the squirrel in our logo comes from…

Stick around — one day, we might just share that secret. 🐿️
